Everyone has experienced a day where their hair just was not cooperating. Maybe it was your hair not holding a curl, the humidity causing you frizz beyond belief, that one piece in the front that just won’t stay straight, and so on. Well, I have some good news. I'm sharing with you all my best tips to maintain beautiful hair.
While I'm a natural brunette at heart, I dye my hair to be blonde. I have a horror story of my own where a hairdresser ruined my hair and gave me major trust issues. Needless to say, I found a new hairdresser who is phenomenal (Eleanor if you’re reading this, you’re the best).
Moral of the story: bad hair stories happen to the best of us. Whether it’s because of a dye job, haircut gone wrong, or that your hair just doesn’t look how you would like it to. Below are four ways to maintain beautiful hair and avoid having a horror story of your own.
1. ALWAYS USE PROTECTION
Not using any type of heat protectant causes so much damage to your locks. Before pulling out your straightening iron, curling wand, or hair dryer, make sure your hair is lathered in protectant. I’m a fan of the Perfect Defense Heat Protectant by Morocconoil. It works for all hair types and keeps your hair looking nice and healthy.
2. SAVE A SHIRT
You might read this one and be like,
“I’m sorry, what?”
But hear me out. Save an old t-shirt and use it in place of a towel after you shower. Towels are harsh on your hair, and they are half the culprit of your frizz. They don't rough up the cuticle as much as towels do. T-shirts will keep your hair smooth.
3. KEEP UP WITH HAIRCUTS
This is crucial. If you’re trying to channel your inner Rapunzel and grow out your hair but refuse to get it trimmed, I can guarantee that you’re doing more harm than good. It’s recommended to get your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks. I’m not saying that the trims are what makes your hair grow, but regular haircuts will make your hair look and feel healthier.
It’s better to have shorter, healthy hair than dead, long hair IMO.
4. DEEP CONDITION
Not only do hairstylists agree on deep conditioning treatments, but dermatologists do as well. If you include a deep conditioner into your hair care routine you’ll be golden. This will boost the hydration in your hair and have people envious of your mane. Not sure of a deep conditioner? I personally recommend using Trader Joe’s Shea Butter & Coconut Oil Hair Mask. It not only leaves your hair feeling like silk, but it smells good and is super affordable.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
The best way to see results is to be consistent. If you stick to a solid hair care regimen, then you’re that much closer to having gorgeous hair. With these four ways to maintain beautiful hair, you and your locks will be the talk of the town.
