How to Achieve a Natural Everyday Makeup Look, Drugstore and High-end Products
By: Amanda Hamilton
Putting on makeup can sometimes be a task that is overwhelming. Not knowing what products to use or how to use them can leave someone feeling intimidated by the idea of makeup. Everyone has those few products that are their favorites and that they can’t live without. As a college student my favorite products are ones that are easy to use and leave me feeling natural and glowing but can be achieved in as little as 5 minutes. My everyday can’t live without products consist of mascara, powder, highlight and brow gel. In truth the products that work for everyone differ and makeup consists of a lot of trial and error of techniques and products. Here’s some things I’ve learned through the years as well as through some reading about how to achieve a glowy, natural makeup look that is easy for every day using some top choice products both drugstore and high end.
What mascara should I use to have long natural lashes?
Mascara is one of those things that I have probably tried 40 different products. Not all mascaras work for every eye shape and some mascaras make your eyelashes look very clumpy, not my favorite look for everyday wear. Through the years these have been the mascaras I reach for every day. Their wands are a classic size and give just the right amount of length and lift to eyelashes. I apply one, sometimes two coats starting from the base and focusing on the outer parts of my lashes to make them the fullest. If your eyelashes are looking a little flat, curl them before applying the product. These mascaras last all day and never flake off.

Concealer that looks natural
As a college student dark circles under my eyes due to lack of sleep are something I deal with every day. I like a concealer that looks like skin and isn’t too matte. For best results apply concealer under your eyes and on any blemishes you have on your face, then take a wet beauty sponge and dab the product till it’s blended in. Directly after concealer is blended its best to set it with powder so no creasing occurs in the spots you applied it. If you have more redness on your skin you may prefer using foundation, I prefer just a little concealer on my face because it looks more natural.

Powder that won’t make you look cakey
Many people are afraid of powder, thinking it will make them look flaky. Powder used in the right places can help oily to combo skin look good all day. Putting powder on the spots you put moist products and also in your T-zone will ensure nothing rubs off throughout the day and also eliminates shine. Don’t put powder outside your T-zone if you still want to achieve glowy skin in the places the sun hits naturally. A light dusting will do the trick with a big brush, but if your skin is oily you may need to reapply throughout the day.

Natural looking bronzer
A good bronzer with the right tones adds warmth and depth to the face and is very universal. These bronzers have tones that would look good on anyone’s skin tone. After powder has set your concealer, lightly swirl a bigger brush in some bronzer and dust it in the hollows of your cheeks bringing it above the cheek bones, adding a little bit to your cheeks and nose will also give a golden glow. I like to take a fluffy eyeshadow brush and put bronzer on my eyelids focusing on the crease to slightly define the eyes but giving a natural look because the bronzer is on the face as well.

How can I looking dewy and have glowing skin?
Highlighter is by far the gamechanger in any makeup look. Pick up a little product on a fluffy brush and tap off the excess. Then, dust the powder on your cheek bones, as well as your brow bone, tip of nose, bridge of nose, and a little bit on your cupids bow. These are all the highest points of your face and where the sun hits naturally, adding highlight in these places will make your skin have a healthy glow that will last all day.

Wet and Wild highlighting powder- $4.99 Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector- $38
How can I keep my eyebrows in place all day?
If you have eyebrows that go everywhere throughout the day eyebrow gel is the key to keeping them tame. Using clear brow gel will give the most natural effect, you can comb through them with a little product and style them to keep hairs in the shape you want. Either of these products come in tinted shades if your eyebrows need a little extra color or fill in.

Maybelline brow drama- $5.99 Benefit Gimme Brow- $24
Lip gloss that won’t stick to everything
Lip gloss has always been one of those things that I couldn’t get into, but my friend who’s into makeup has always sworn it’s something she can’t live without, “lip gloss is something that just adds so much to my look, it makes me look glowy and natural while also hydrating my lips. It’s a must for my daily routine.” She tells me. A good lip gloss is something that isn’t super sticky but still has a good amount of shine and moisture. Applying a coat to your bottom lip and rubbing it in to your top lip gives a natural look without too much product. Adding a little bit of gloss above your top lip line will make your lips look a little fuller as well.
