In college, there are many times that you will be encouraged to not do your work. If this is your first semester that you are going to college, there will many distractions that will implore you to put off your work. There may even be too much work for you to handle that you may just give up altogether.

No matter what though you will have to be encouraged to keep engaged. The way to do this is by figuring out your own personal schedule. No two students are the same and now homework or study schedule is going to work for everyone.

In “How burnout makes us less creative” by Rahaf Harfoush, we are shown not only do you have to find out what schedule works for you but also how to keep going. As you can only truly do so much work before you give out.

We are told that “it is almost impossible for our brains to continuously generate new ideas with no rest.” The human brain, a magnificent thing can only do so much. As at a certain point you will...burnout.

As a college student who has dealt with stress, managing time with schoolwork, and more things I have some personal experience that can help. Every assignment has to get done no matter what. But how can you do it all without cracking under pressure?

Well, you have to first experiment a little when you come to college. For example, when I started my freshman year, I was very overwhelmed as high school to college is a big transition not just in work. But what you are expected to do and know when arriving.

There is no safety net, no mom or dad to hold your hand, now is the time to grow up and take responsibility. You can figure out that sometimes you need to take a deep breath and think about what and how do you want to do something. Like this you will find, will calm your mind and you will be able to focus to get your work done.

If you want to make a whiteboard filled with your assignments due that month and when you will do them and block out all other things that’s great. If not, you need to find the time, no matter what. Friends and other activates come second to your schoolwork.

However, you do need to make time for your friends. Breaks are a necessary thing in college. Some assignments will take a couple of days. You do not want to wait until the last minute and be working on your laptop for over 4 hours.

That is when you will truly burnout. Plan a schedule of working for an hour then take a little break, eat a little, hang out with friends whatever you can do to take your mind off what you need to get done. There was a time when I would take a mediation break.

Fresh air is a wonderful thing, sometimes you just need to go outside in the sun and take a walk. Anything honestly that you enjoy in your life you can do that will bring you to a state of peace. Then you mind and body will be strong enough to get back on the saddle that is doing college work.

Remember college is supposed to be tough if it wasn’t there would not be requirements to get in. You are here to learn and grow as a person. To do this you need to be calm, and figure out what works for you.
