Escape reality through music

Have you ever had a dull day where you do not feel like doing anything, talking to anyone, or fulfilling any of your responsibilities? You just want to lay in bed snuggled up in your big fluffy comforter with your favorite pillow, in your best pajamas, and binge watch the same shows you’ve been watching for years? Or maybe have a movie marathon? Me too.

Some days are hard. Getting up, doing life, adulting. Sometimes it’s just a big fat nope. But what I can always count on to give me a little booster start for my day is some good ol’ music. My personal favorite: Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. No matter what mood I'm in, what I feel like doing, this song can always put me in the mood to get up and do what I need to do and motivate me to get through the day. I’m sure you’re thinking of that special song that does the same for you.

ree

Music is good for you. Nobody anywhere doesn’t like music. Maybe they don’t like a specific genre, for example, my friends claim that country music “makes their ears bleed”. Dramatic, I know. But every single person in the world has a type of music that feeds their soul.

It is scientifically proven that music is good for your overall health and well-being. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, experts have been trying to figure out the connection between your brain and how it reacts to music. They’ve watched which areas of the brain light up when exposed to music, and based on what they see, they’ve come to some conclusions.

The first being that it helps with creativity. The second being it helps with memory, and the last being that people almost always have a positive reaction to music. Now I'm sure there's many more benefits to music and health, but to put it plain and simple, it can improve many aspects of your life.

The moral of the story is, the next time you feel down in the dumps and want to go through your usual unhealthy coping mechanisms of becoming a hermit crab and skipping all of your classes for the day and disappearing into a cave of sorrow, put on some headphones, turn the volume way up, and just close your eyes. Feel the music run through you and really focus on how good it makes you feel.

Escape reality for 3 minutes and come back feeling better and feeling ready to tackle the day ahead of you. You got this.

Here's a list of my top 10 escape songs, in no specific order:

1.) Champange Supernova by Oasis

2.) Scar Tissue by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

3.) Cigarette Daydreams by Cage the Elephant

4.) Boston by Augustana

5.) Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol

6.) Gypsy by Fleetwood Mac

7.) Leaving New York by R.E.M

8.) Paris by the 1975

9.) 3 a.m. by Matchbox Twenty

10.) Hey Jude by the Beatles
