We’re All Relatable

Do you ever do something stupid and end up questioning yourself? I do. All the time. I always thought I was the only one, but now I’ve come to realize a lot of people do the same stupid things I do. Do you want to know how I realized that? Instagram memes. I’ll casually be scrolling through Instagram until I come across a meme stating some stupid thing I’ve done, and now I know I’m not the only one.
We’re all relatable, and none of us are alone. Maybe Instagram won’t help you out everytime something in your life goes wrong, but other people and sources can help.
The series “The Way We Work” by TED Talks helped me with this. A series of videos about some of the concepts we run into when going through this thing called life. Rahaf Harfouch’s video in this series, “How burnout makes us less creative” really struck me. https://www.ted.com/talks/rahaf_harfoush_how_burnout_makes_us_less_creative?language=en&referrer=playlist-the_way_we_work_season_2
As Harfouch said, “Productivity has wrapped itself up in our self-worth so that it’s almost impossible for us to allow ourselves to stop working,” which is really visible in our young lives. We are constantly running around as college students. Pulling all-nighters, spending hours on homework, going back and forth between class and work, so our lives are exhausting.
That can be super contradicting. If we are working super hard, then aren’t we destined to be successful? It’s so disappointing to work so hard for something and it just doesn’t workout.
Sometimes we just need a reality check. We aren’t always going to be successful, but we can still work hard.
As Harfouch also mentioned in her video as a saying, “If you’re not successful, it must mean you’re not working hard enough,” as so it’s sometimes said. That’s not true. We have to believe in ourselves and in each other.
I’m sure we’ve all stayed up all night doing our homework at least once, but was it worth it? Did it make you any more successful than you would’ve if you turned in that assignment a day late?
Sometimes I like to say, “Just take one for the team.” In other words, screw it. No one is perfect, so what’s the point in trying to be? Listen to yourself. Listen to your body. Listen to what other people have to say, and take it into consideration.
We can help each other. Most of us are going through similar situations, so why not go through them together? It can make us better.
Sometimes we just need someone to help us make a decision, or to tell us to get our lives together. Some things in life can be way more simple than we think. We can’t do everything on our own, so use any resources you can get your hands on.
Watch some TED Talks. “The Way We Work” can help you! It can help us. It could make you realize something you didn’t know before. That’s what it did for me. https://www.ted.com/series/the_way_we_work
